Canadian Employment at Six-Year High!
Employment in Canada reached its highest level since December 2008, as 74,100 new Canadian jobs were created during September 2014. This significant increase of jobs in Canada dropped the Canadian unemployment rate down to 6.8% (the lowest unemployment rate in Canada in six years). According to the new data released by Statistics Canada (October 2014), 69,300 of the 74,100 new Canadian jobs were for full-time employment. Furthermore, the 74,100 new jobs in Canada that were created in September 2014 beat the expectations of many economists who had forecast that 20,000 new Canadian jobs would be created.
Although the overall unemployment rate for Canada fell to 6.8 percent, some provinces did better than others in Canadian job creation. For example, Statistics Canada reported (October 2014) that Ontario led the other provinces and territories in the expansion of employment, adding 24,700 new Canadian jobs in September 2014, while Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland & Labrador also saw impressive gains in employment that month.
Statistics Canada reported additional good news about the Canadian economy in October 2014, stating that the majority of businesses in all sectors across Canada indicated that they plan to hire more employees over the next 12-month period.
