Retirees to Outnumber Young People in Canada This Year
According to Statistics Canada, sometime in 2013, retirees will outnumber young people (ages 15-24) for the first time in Canadian history (e.g., since records have been kept). This is because over time, Canadians have had fewer children (a trend also seen in other developed countries) and now the large “baby boomer” generation is starting to retire. With large numbers of Canadians retiring and fewer Canadians entering the workforce, this has created a problem for businesses in Canada that has become an opportunity for those making Canadian immigration.
In order to fill Canada job openings in various occupations and help Canada’s healthy economy continue to grow, the Canadian government is offering a Permanent Resident Visa to Canada to approximately 250,000 qualified foreign workers each year. Several Canadian immigration programs have been established by Canada’s government to attract skilled foreign workers from around the globe to fill these high-demand Canadian jobs.
Another related issue that makes this an excellent time to apply for a work visa to Canada is that in many cases, the shortage of workers for high-demand jobs is resulting in increased wages and salaries for many of these Canadian jobs. The economic law of “supply and demand” basically states that a high-demand (for skilled workers) combined with a low supply (of skilled workers) will lead employers to increase wages and salaries in order to attract qualified workers in a competitive economic system – this seems to be what is occurring in many locations in Canada (such as Alberta, for example).
The latest expert projections indicate that this shortage of skilled workers in Canada is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. According to University of Alberta professor, Frank Trovato, almost all growth in Canada’s work force during the next 20 years will come from Canadian immigration. Thus, if you qualify for a work visa to Canada, you may be able to take advantage of this unique demographic situation – something that can be beneficial to both you and Canada!
